Apeco supplies dry-screening system for screenings
As of May this year, AS Kunda Nordic Tsement has been operating a new dry-screening complex for screenings. This is an extension of the Aru-Lõuna limestone quarry plant, designed to refine material of fraction 0–4. The process yields two fractions, 0–2 and 2–5, which can later be used to achieve resource efficiency.
In collaboration with the Austrian company Binder+Co AG, Apeco as main contractor supplied the necessary conveyor technologies and screening system. In addition, walkways were installed to enhance safety and facilitate later servicing. The various parts of the line were covered to minimise dust from the material, and the electrical system was integrated into the existing one. Apeco’s engineers helped plan the extension of the plant from the very first stages of the process, which provided additional reassurance to the client in making the new investment.
The new dry-screening complex is an excellent alternative to wet-screening technology, as it requires a significantly lower investment than the latter. And not only that, the costs associated with the operation of dry-screening technology are also lower than for wet-screening technology. The new solution will make production at the Aru-Lõuna limestone quarry plant significantly more efficient and sustainable.
The new dry-screening system is part of the Kunda Nordic Tsement AS Resource Efficiency Project, which is funded by the Estonian Environmental Investment Centre. The aim of the project is to overhaul the mixing unit and the crusher system and to purchase a new excavator, which will yield a 30.9% increase in resource efficiency.
